The Collective is a reading archive, not an advertising business. Information is collected only to run the membership and improve the reading experience. It is never sold.
What is collected
- Account details — the email address used to sign in. Passwords are stored in hashed form by the authentication provider and are never visible to The Collective.
- Reading activity — which pieces are opened and completed, time spent reading, and any private notes a member writes, so the archive can pick up where a member left off and recommend a starting piece.
- Payment information — handled entirely by the payment processor (Stripe). The Collective receives the membership status and plan, but never sees or stores card numbers.
- Site analytics — basic, first-party visit and page-view counts to understand traffic. No third-party advertising trackers are used.
- Optional submissions — answers to the entry diagnostic if taken, and the contents of any support or contact message sent.
How it is used
- To provide and personalize the reading experience, including resuming reading and suggesting a first piece.
- To process membership payments and send receipts, onboarding, and account notices (such as a reminder if a payment fails).
- To answer support requests and improve the archive.
Who it is shared with
Only the service providers required to operate the membership, each handling only what its function needs:
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Supabase — database and account hosting.
- Vercel — website hosting.
- MailerLite and Resend — sending membership and onboarding email.
Information is never sold, rented, or shared for advertising. It may be disclosed only if required by law.
Cookies
A single sign-in cookie keeps a member logged in, and first-party analytics count visits. There are no third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How long it is kept
Account and reading data are kept for as long as the membership is active. When a membership ends, the data is retained only as long as needed for records, and is removed on request (see below).
Your rights
Every member can, at any time:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data held about them.
- Correct — ask for inaccurate information to be fixed.
- Delete — request full erasure of their account and data (the "right to be forgotten"). On request, reading history, notes, membership records, and the login account are permanently removed, and any active subscription is cancelled.
To make any of these requests, email archive@marielpaquin.com or use the in-app support form. Requests are honored within 30 days.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and protected by strict access controls, so a member's private information is not visible to other members. Payment details are held only by the payment processor.
Children
The Collective is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version and its effective date will be posted on this page.
